Another good horror/crime story that takes place in oppressively hot weather is “Shopping for Death”/”Touched with Fire” by Ray Bradbury. It was adapted for Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Ray Bradbury Theater but unfortunately not for old time radio.

Many good points are made about the story August Heat here, but it’s sad to hear Joshua’s description and glib dismissal of the book referenced in the episode, a book he declares he’s never actually read.
