We’re on the brink of our 300th episode and we’re marking the event with a special visit to the Listener Library! Our mysterious listener and Patreon supporter Trevor recommended we listen to “Donovan’s Brain,” the first two-part installment of Suspense. Thanks, Trevor! The story features Orson Welles as a scientist convinced he can keep a brain alive even after the body has perished. But the pursuit leads him into making some dangerous and dubious decisions. What sort of existence can a brain have outside of its body? What effect will this experiment have on the doctor? Is he just mad about saffron? Listen for yourself and find out! Then vote and let us know what you think!
Regarding what you guys said about association, that’s my experience too! So many mental links made while doing one thing and listening simultaneously to this podcast — including one from “Death Robbery” to LEGO Star Wars! Anyway, keep up the good work guys, you’re my favorite!
One of these days, I want somebody to pull this “have someone committed so nobody believes them” trick, and the psychiatrist immediately calls the police because they KNOW A SANE PERSON FROM A DELUSIONAL ONE, DANG IT! Somebody that actually knows how to do their job instead of going off the pop culture understanding of insanity.
That would be a great twist, but so many reasons it is a trope, least of which is to play into fears about “headshrinkers”. It is almost funny. People fear mental health professionals, so pop culture plays into that and makes them “scary”.
I actually read the script for this in 7th grade as a school assignment long before I heard it.
Would love to get an official Morals “mac n cheese” recipe link/post!
