Our thanks to our Patreon supporter Jules for suggesting this episode of Lights Out, “Subbasement!” The story features a husband grudgingly granting his wife a tour of his subterranean workplace. Beneath the city’s department stores, the buildings are connected by a dark tunnel that seems to be abandoned as the couple make their way through the darkness. Why has chosen this evening to provide his wife with this tour? What unexpected surprise does Arch Oboler have waiting for them? Will Eric be forced to pay Tim & Joshua $100? Listen for yourself and find out! Then vote and let us know what you think!

Does “Subbasement” stand the test of time?

I was hoping that the wife would find one of the trains and use that to crash into the [spoiler redacted], thereby showing some initiative and determination and proving herself stronger than her husband, but sadly, it was not to be.

I think this was one of the first episodes of Lights Out I heard and I’ve always had a soft spot for anything involving “underground cities” (blame Carl Kolchak) so I actually quite like this one. Yes, it has some silly moments but – underground and dinosaurs, even blind ones are scarier than worms.

Okay I bought this on cassette as a teenager and my first reaction was “why was there a dinosaur?” , so we’re on the same page here, I guess

It was pretty disturbing to listen to the wife get bossed around by her husband, who sounded like he didn’t even like her, and when he confessed the real reason he brought her down there, that confirmed it. He got what was coming to him, regardless. Entertaining, though disturbing.

The commentary was better than the episode. The guy who doesn’t know what dinosaurs are, but knows they lived millions of years ago…

The dinosaur is completely unnecessary belongs on a t-shirt. Also, would listen to a Strangers on an Underground Train episode.
