No special event this week! We’re just listening to Candy Matson for the sheer pleasure of it. In this episode the San Francisco-based detective is called in to investigate a dead body discovered in a restaurant. Some time after that, she goes to the opera! Is that essentially the whole story? Is the food any good? Who writes this stuff? Listen for yourself and find out! Then vote and let us know what you think!

OMG. This is one of my favorite OTR episodes. I’m biased because I work in the costume shop at the Detroit Opera House, which has a little tunnel (no water in it) from one part of the building to another, I adore Italian food, and my favorite Opera is Faust! A fabulous lady detective in an era of male dominated field (investigator, radio drama star, single professional woman with a great sense of humor). Also the concept that Mallard keeps giving her guns instead of helping her learn how to protect herself, is SO pertinent for today’s climate.

Candy Matson is a lot of fun, but for me the best part was when the announcer identified himself as Dudley Manlove! (Yes, snicker away.) Manlove was one of the stars of Ed Wood’s movie masterpiece “Plan 9 from Outer Space;” he played Eros, the alien invader!
