Happy New Year! As the holiday season comes to a close, it’s time for our annual visit to the diligent man who lives by the rails. This is our fourth year sharing an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ other famous ghost story, “The Signal-Man.” We listen to the Lights Out adaptation this year and as before, this story depicts a curious stranger who encounters a rail worker beset by visions. Why does he seem to be receiving some otherworldly warning? How will this version compare to those we have already heard? What is the secret meaning of the Lights Out gong? Listen for yourself and find out! Then vote and let us know what you think!
I think I would have enjoyed this more if I wasn’t so fond of the Suspense version. I only know the story from Suspense, never read the Dickens, never heard any of the other adaptations, so I found myself waiting for the plot to twist as I expected it to, and then being disappointed when it didn’t.
Which isn’t Lights Out’s fault. 🙂
Also, I should have waited a few days after listening to the oh-so-exquisite Hitchhiker, as one of you mentioned, nothing could follow that. The Hitchhiker was Jerry Lee Lewis setting the piano on fire.

I like Eric’s criteria of pace, production and performance
Team Joshua this episode.
Additionally, I more enjoy the Signal-man (Signal-men?) when the narrator is a more active participant in the end.
